JS BUG! PLEASE RELOAD!

A Tutorial by Flo
Some webby people have written to me, saying they had to give up their webby, as it wouldn't work on their new upgraded phone service. So here's what I've learned:

From a Verizon technician who installs DSL and Fiber Optic service (12/13/06):

  • DSL SERVICE:

Requires filters on the line so that telephones, fax machines, and webby LBBs can still work! Only computers, it seems, don't need the filter for this broadband service.

  • FIBER OPTIC SERVICE:

Most brands of phones and fax machines work without having to have fiters. AND best news of all - webby will work also with no filter!

From Linda Fasciano:

  • CABLE:

After nearly two years of Comcast digital phone with webTV, the webTV suddenly stopped connecting. I called the tech support at WebTV and for a week or more they had me unplug and plug back in, hip options 3 times, code in some numbers, set to audible dial, etc. The box would dial up and would sound like a fax machine but would not connect. After a minute or so it would give a pop-up saying that it could not connect to MSN, try again later. Finally WebTV told me that it was because of my digital phone and refused to help me anymore. Told me to get the MSN-TV2. I decided to go back to an analog phone and cancelled my Comcast digital phone. Now I'm back on WebTV.

Sooo, if you're tempted to get your service upgraded to broadband, choose Fiber Optics. It's about $5 per month more than DSL, but it's worth it, if you have a computer, too.

We paid around $93 for the installation, as we also wanted a wireless network. Installation fees are lower without the wireless network.

The tech was here for 6 hours (time out for his lunch), doing all the rewiring, installing a gizmo, a backup battery, the router for a PROTECTED wireless network (so we can use the 2 computers anywhere in the house or yard, but others can't use it) and to make sure both computers worked.

This is what Verizon charges in the state of NJ. It may be more or less in other states and/or with a different company.

I'm writing this using our new FiO service. So far, webby seems to be running much faster than normal. I hope this keeps up.

A Note: the tech also put in a Fiber Optic line that will carry video, when Verizon is ready to start broadcasting TV, in competition with the cable TV companies.
