USING COLORMAP AT IMAGE MAGICK
WITH DAVE'S COMPOSITE/BLEND TOOL
The Colormap tool at Image Magick has some interesting features we can use as Paint assistants: Color Number, Dither, Gray, Posterize or Segment, and Black & White.
Please follow along while I convert the image at the left into the one below it.

IMPORTANT: Write down the url of the original image you'll be using.

  1. First Input the original image into Image Magick.
  2. Click on Colormap.
  3. Uncheck Dither.
  4. Check Black & White.
  5. Click on the Quantize button.
  6. On View screen, scroll down to bottom
Fuzz: 999, Method: Replace, Color Type: Color, Fill Color: I used #000066.
  7. Click on image, place arrow on a black area and click again.
  8. Output and save to your File Manager.

  1. Input original into Image Magick again.
  2. Click on Colormap.
  3. Leave Dither checked.
  4. Check Black & White again.
  5. On View screen, scroll down again
Fuzz: 999, Method: Replace, Color Type: Color, Fill Color: I used #009900.
  6. Finish as above.

Now we go to Dave's Composite/Blend Tool.
  1. Put url of the green image into your Find key.
  2. Take url of the blue image to Dave's Tool above. Paste url into the bg box at topof page.
  3. Paste url of the green image into the next box.
  4. Important: change the name of the finished image from Dave's default name.
  5. Follow directions about quality; offsets (none); gravity: center.
  6. Percents: enter 55 into bg box; 45 into overlay box.
  7. Click on Blend radio button.
  8. On next page, check the result. If you do not like it, back up and use different percents - they must add up to 100.
  9. When you like the result, click on the image. Now you can use the Go To key to get the url to TL to your own File Manager. Save this result to use for something else - OR continue -

  1. (OR continue) After you have the url for the result so far, back up twice to get to Dave's Tool page again.
  2. Delete the url in the background box and paste in this url that you have just finished.
  3. Type in the url of the original image (that you had written down) into the next box.
  4. Change the name of the output image again.
  5. Scroll down and try the same percentages you used before. If you don't like the result, back up and try again.
  6. When you are satisfied, save as above.

Remember, we are limited by our own imagination and creativity.
