My thanks to Lacey for telling me about the textured effects we can get with reducing the numbers of colors in Colormap at Image Magick. To make a BG similar to this page's bg: Make a gradient bg. For this purpose, it's best if you use colors that are opposites and also medium to dark shades. In Colormap: leave number of colors at 256; uncheck Dither; check Posterize. then click on Quantize. Take this result back to Colormap: Change colors to 10; keep Dither checked; check Posterize again; then click on Quantize. Save this bg and use with any image of your choice any way you want. To make a BG similar to this table's bg or the bg in the title: Make a gradient bg, again using darker colors. In Colormap: leave number of colors at 256; leave Dither checked; check Posterize. then click on Quantize. Optional: Take this result to Enhance. Enter 3,3,3 into the box and make sure the Gamma is checked. This will lighten the colors. Or you can skip this step if you want the colors to be darker.
